Discourse on Leather
Leather twin-set from Gertie's on High St, Christchurch, belt, my late Grandmother's, mini-gingham shirt op-shopped.
Here is my new leather twin-set. It is not exactly twin-set as the jacket and skirt are different brands, but they are both leather and I am very happy with them. I feel very strongly about leather. It keeps you warm. It feels nice and snug. If you are cooking the flour just dusts off it. If you are sitting on a sofa that the cat frequents, the hair doesn't even stick! Ah, all my domestic concerns sorted, in one handy, wipe-able fabric. I don't have a problem with it being the product of an animal, although I thought that perhaps I would. I thought that I would feel really butch. But I don't. I actually feel surprisingly economical. This duo will see me through winter. When I do not have as much money as I did when I bought it, i.e. now, lol, I won't want for warm, waterproof coverage. It looks rather smart, it can be dressed up or down, Jesus, Cleo night and Day shoot coming up!, and I feel rough and tumble in it. You know those fabrics that you just feel so ginger in?? Most of my clothes are like that, to be honest. And I don't lead a ginger sort of lifestyle. The last time I wore my nice riding coat I was biking, got hot, put it in the back rack of my bicycle and lo and behold it got caught up in the spokes and ground me to a halt. I don't mind though. I would prefer to be able to do what I need to do than look like I'm wrapped in plastic. Which reminds me... clingfilm. Also, there's the fact it's second hand. It is old. It has been loved. The animal has died and had many happy grandchildren. There is the problem of sustainability for vintage things... yes there is this problem. However. There is also the fact that this will get a lot of wear and there will be less things produced in my quest to keep warm and cool. I just feel locked in with this leather combo. However, I am thinking about taking up the skirt. I don't have the best legs in the world, but there is nothing like a leather mini for a kick ass silhouette. It just looks better. Though maybe not on my legs...?? Ah! Deliberation. But if I did decide to take up the skirt, it really looks to be only a simple matter of cutting it and getting some sort of adhesive thing to iron it to the underside of the skirt. There are no seams in the bottom of this skirt and this adhesive business looks to be the case presently. Oh, well, I could discourse for hours about leather. In fact..... nah, next time: Leather Discourse Part 2, pending.
